Mayor’s Message: Lights on Main 2019 in review

In this week's Mayor's Message, Mayor Louis Manzo discusses the 2019 Lights on Main event

For many of us, the meaning of Thanksgiving usually includes feasting, four-day weekends, football games, floats, family reunions or a forerunner to Christmas festivities. I’m sure we all consumed the traditional meal specialties handed down from generations and had an opportunity to reunite with family and friends. Thanksgiving is also a time to give thanks to our family values and share memories of the old.

Thanksgiving also is a signal that Lights on Main is here. Now an award winning event, our Lights on Main has grown to be a spectacular venue. Again it was another enormous successful event. I would like to share my sincere appreciation for all of the prep and planning, led by our Recreation Commission, who once again hosted an amazing event for our entire community and guests to enjoy and share in a memorable evening. This event in particular is so complex which includes detail planning that takes months and an army of volunteers to implement. I would like to give a special shout out to our Recreation Coordinator, Sharon Chew, who commands the leadership role of this event and with the leadership of our Recreation Chair, Robert Johnson and Vice Chair, Bonnie Howarth who all do an amazing job in planning and organizing this event every year. Each year a new addition is added making the “WOW effect” even more revealing. This year we chose to close out our 175th Year Celebration by having our Historic Old Town Hall outlined with lights and having the reveal done with a dramatic countdown. We also developed a limited edition Christmas ornament capturing Old Town Hall that can be order through our Clerk’s Office.

Lights on Main has become an annual event that brings many of our local community out with their families to enjoy a festive evening in our historic district. Walking Main Street during this event really makes you proud to be part of this community. The street décor and special effects makes the street come alive and reminds us that the more holidays are coming.

Wishing all of our residents, businesses and their families a wonderful holiday season.
