On Sept. 28, the Delran Historical Society will be holding its 10th anniversary celebration, also known as Delran History Day. The event will take place at the Delran Municipal Building located at 900 Chester Ave. Open house will begin at 11 a.m with a display of some of the organization’s collection and will continue until 4 p.m.
According to Delran Historical Society member Renee Brizzi, the organization was created 10 years ago when a group of local citizens decided to come together. The love of their town created their mission and motto of “collecting, preserving and educating.” In the organization’s short time together, it has had its hand in various projects to preserve the history of Delran.
“Having a love of history and pride in the town we call our own,” said Brizzi. “The Delran Historical Society has come a long way since that first meeting. The society is very proud of what this small organization has grown to become and accomplished over the last decade.”
Some of the projects the historical society has been a part of include the Delran Historic Site Marker Project, the Historic Site Marker Trail, reburying the Delran 1980 Centennial Time Capsule and the Delran Mayors Photo Project. The organization has also participated in annual displays of pop-up museums at the Delran Community Day event and the Burlington County Farm Fair
At Delran History Day, residents will be able to browse the organization’s collection of photos, artifacts, early school records and obituaries. Residents will be able to find out more information about joining the society and other ways participants can get involved with the organization.
Also, the organization will be offering appraisals of items from noon until 2 p.m. from author, auctioneer, appraiser and radio show host Mike Ivankovich. Each appraisal will cost $5 and no firearms, swords, knives or weapons of any kind will be accepted.
“We do what we do because we are proud of our community and want to preserve as much as we can for future generations to come,” said Brizzi. “We do it for the residents who, in some way, have ties to Delran or just love small town history.”
The Delran Historical Society has been recognized by the Burlington County Freeholders in each of the last three years for its efforts in impacting the community. Outside of the various projects that the society is involved in, it impacts the community by providing educational trips and fundraisers, presenting educational presentations at monthly meetings, contributing and supporting the annual Senior History Student Awards at Delran High School and conducting personal interviews with longtime residents to capture and record the history and knowledge of Delran’s past.
