Annual Yard Sale/Craft Fair to be held on Sept. 7

Formerly known as Open Air Market, attendees can grab a bite to eat and check out a galore of yard sale items, baked goods and vendors.

Formerly known as Open Air Market, the Richwood United Methodist Church is having its Yard Sale/Craft Fair indoors this year at its Fellowship Hall, across the street from the sanctuary, located at 111 Richwood Road.

On Sept. 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees can grab a bite to eat and check out a galore of yard sale items, baked goods and vendors.

“We have this beautiful hall, so we’re moving it across the street,” said Mildred Herman, administrative assistant and youth director at the church.

The hall will be stacked with different yard sale items ranging from holiday decorations, kitchenware, artwork such as paintings and photographs, sewing and craft supplies, to name a few. The younger crowd will be able to find games, toys and books for sale.

For months, the church collects yard sale items from members and friends in the community. Those items are then stored in the church’s basement until a few weeks before the event. It takes a group of dedicated volunteers from the church and community to sort, organize and price the items. On the evening of Thursday, Aug. 29 and up until the last week of the event, those volunteers will be moving the items into the hall to complete the final set up.

“We find that mostly all of our fundraisers are good ways to bring the church and the community together,” said Herman.

The church is excited to use the hall’s kitchen, a first for the event since it was moved indoors. Customers at the yard sale can snack on their favorite breakfast foods, such as breakfast sandwiches, donuts and bagels, which are donated by Mullica Hill’s own Village Bagels.

For the afternoon visitors, hot dogs, meatball sandwiches and even ice cream will be available for sale.

For those in the mood for some homemade baked goods, the church is having a baking table stacked with homemade jams, cookies, brownies, cakes and pies made by the church’s own members.

The church is encouraging anyone interested in renting a vendor table during the event to call the church at (856) 589-0874 as soon as possible. The cost per space is $20. The church is taking submissions all the way until the start of the event.

All kinds of volunteer jobs will be available on the day of the sale, starting at 7 a.m. The church is encouraging the community to come out and help. Those who are interested can contact Sylvia Reed at (856) 478-2728.

Reed, a 50-year member of the church, has been in charge of the yard sale for the past few years.

Those who are interested can check out some of the other fundraisers the church has throughout the year, such as a Christmas cookie and craft fair in December, along with others, on the church’s calendar, found on its website, richwoodchurch.org, or on the church’s Facebook page. To get in touch with the pastor, the Rev. Steven Herman, please call (856) 589-0874.

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, they say. So come on out on Saturday and find what you’re looking for,” said Herman.
