Letter to the Editor: Fundraiser unexpectedly fell short

Editor’s Note: In this letter to the editor, Kathy Campanella responds to the story “Community aid lifts spirits of woman battling cancer” that can be found here. Campanella is fundraising for a lift after learning her cancer will progress to the point where she will be wheelchair bound.

I want to thank everyone for standing behind me during this time. Everyone has been so amazing and generous.

At this time, we are about $1,700 short. After talking to my medical team, I found out that I have been reaching for a stair lift but really, what I need is a wheelchair lift. With this, it is a lot more money. I have had a few wonderful men offer to install for free. This saves a few thousand by itself. Even with this though it is still about $1,700 more for the cost of the supplies.

With this, it is taking a little longer to start on the project. I just want to let everyone know I am embarrassed by this mistake I have made, but I’m glad I found out before money was spent on the wrong item.

At this time, we are working on getting the extra money and figuring it out so we can get the elevator lift as soon as possible. I just wanted to let everyone know why it is taking longer than expected and that it is still in the process.

Once again, I’m sorry for my mistake. I do thank Danielle South so much for everything she has done and to make it possible for this. I am truly touched by everyone’s heart and how much they have showed me. I love you all so much, and I can’t wait to share pictures of the final project that will allow me to get in and out of my home.

Below is a GoFundMe page I made hoping to be able to raise part of the $1,700 so that we can begin the project right way https://www.gofundme.com/f/er6tp-elevator-lift?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fb_co_shareflow_m.

Those interested in donating can also do so via the original fundraiser at https://www.gofundme.com/f/stairlift-for-cancer-survivor.
