Medford Lakes resident to serve as this year’s NJASBO second vice president

Richard Kaz has been named second vice president of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials for the 2019-2020 school year.

Medford Lakes resident and Northern Burlington County Regional School District business administrator/board secretary Richard Kaz has been named second vice president of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) for the 2019-2020 school year.

Kaz began his career in school business administration at Northern Burlington in 2002. The regional district serves students in grades 7 through 12 from Chesterfield, Mansfield, North Hanover and Springfield townships, along with Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Before joining Northern Burlington, Kaz worked in the Moorestown Township Public School District from 1997 to 2002 as an assistant to the superintendent with responsibilities for human resources, budgeting, public relations and transportation.

Kaz also has worked in the private industry as a chief financial officer for The Association of Independent Growth, Inc. (TAIG), a Philadelphia nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. He helped lead TAIG from a $300,000 annual budget to a $13 million annual budget during his 13 years with the organization.

For NJASBO, Kaz has served on numerous committees and for two years was the organization’s representative to the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). He is a three-time recipient of ASBO International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. Kaz also is a past president of the Burlington County Association of School Business Officials, and a member of the Board of Trustees for both the Burlington County Insurance Pool Joint Insurance Fund and the SPELL Joint Insurance Fund.

Kaz earned a bachelor of science in accounting from Niagara University (NU). He also attended Rowan University, where he earned a School Business Administrator Standard Certificate.

Active in his church, the parish of St. Mary of The Lakes in Medford, Kaz founded the Parish School Advisory Council and also served on the Parish Finance Committee. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6520. Kaz also coached youth ice hockey for more than 20 years.

Kaz and wife, Sarah, have been married for 33 years and have raised three boys: Richard III, Christopher and Peter.
