At its most recent meeting, Cherry Hill Township Council passed, upon second reading, an ordinance that amended a chapter of a previous ordinance dealing with traffic regulations. Specifically, this latest ordinance deals with alleviating the parking situation on West Hoffman Avenue by granting permit parking for the entire length of the street on both sides of the street, for all hours of the day.

West Hoffman runs for less than a block, wedged between Park Drive and the intersection of Route 70 and Cuthbert Boulevard, directly across the highway from the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Due to its proximity to Cooper River Park and various events that take place there over the course of a year, residents can feel the squeeze when outsiders use that block on which to park.

“This was as a result of a petition, in order to accommodate residents who were feeling the congestion of activities which took place at the Cooper River. This was an ordinance at the request of residents on that block, looking to get some relief for the parking situation,” said council President David Fleisher.

According to language contained within the ordinance, Cherry Hill Police Department investigated multiple reports of “improper parking and general parking” when those events occurred, and “inconvenience and conflicts to local residents by excessive vehicles” parked on the street. The department subsequently determined that a need to control parking along West Hoffman existed.

The ordinance had been approved unanimously upon its first reading at a council session on May 28, and was approved unanimously on June 24, with no objections by the public.

According to township law, the ordinance will take effect 20 days after final passage and publication, which is slated for July 14.

Council additionally passed resolutions to appoint various members to its Rent Review Board and its Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Daniel DiRenzo, Jr. and Wyatt Sklar were both appointed to the former for a four-year term, while Marshall Spevak (formerly an alternate) was appointed as a regular member for a four-year term.

For the latter, Lorna Martin and William Arcari were appointed as landlord members each with a two-year term, Jim Peeler was appointed as a tenant member to a two-year term, Alicia Kagan was appointed a homeowner member to a two-year term and Marty Weiss was appointed chairman on a one-year term expiring June 30, 2020. Terms for all others will expire on June 30, 2021.
