Palmyra police inspect suspicious letter, warn residents against opening unknown or suspicious packages

Police advise any residents who receive a suspicious letter or package hold on to it and call 9-1-1.

The following is on file with the Palmyra Police Department:

At approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, a subject with a suspicious letter walked into the lobby of Palmyra Police Headquarters. The letter had already been opened by the person who had received it.

Out of concern for the contents of a second envelope that was enclosed in the main envelope, everything was sealed and removed to the police department’s rear parking lot. In an abundance of caution the Burlington County Health and Human Service and HAZMAT Response Team responded to inspect the letter.

No hazardous materials were found and the letters were turned over to law enforcement for further investigation.

Should you receive a suspicious letter or package to please hold on to it and call 9-1-1. If at all possible no packages should be brought into police headquarters.
