Mantua to see 2 percent tax increase in 2018 after polls close in township

Fire district tax increases by smallĀ amount

The polls closed at 9 p.m. at the firehouse on Union Ave., and the people chose to approve the 2 percent tax increase proposal. This increase is the maximum allowed under currentĀ law.

In 2017, the rate per $100 was $.082; the 2018 increase will move that number up toĀ $.0829.

ā€œThe reasons for increase are merely for cost of living increases, i.e. electric, gas, water and sewer, fuel, insurance costs, salary increases for employees,ā€ said Brian Hauss, Mantua fireĀ chief.

Chuck M. Jones ran unopposed and will serve as a commissioner.
