Evesham Township Mayor Jaclyn Veasy has released the follow message outlining recent happenings and events in town:
Summer 2019 is right around the corner, and as we wrap up the spring, we have been able to celebrate so many wonderful community events in Evesham.
We had a great time celebrating at Taste of Evesham, Marlton Day, Relay for Life and so many others.
I even had the privilege of presiding over a wedding for the first time as your Mayor.
Love is clearly in the air!
Marlton Farmers Market
If you missed out on any of these events, that’s OK, because our Marlton Farmers Market kicks off on June 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Marlton Greene shopping plaza.
It will be held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month until the end of September.
We hope to see you there!
Congratulations to local students
I also want to take a moment and congratulate our amazing Cherokee theater students.
I was lucky enough to go see “Hello Dolly” performed by Evesham’s many talented students and it was wonderful!
I also hope you were able to visit the Evesham School District’s Annual “Eyes on Art” Show, which was held in the Evesham Township Municipal Building and showcased the elementary and middle school students’ artwork. It was their 25th annual art show, and I was in awe of their creativity. I encourage you to please continue to support our incredible arts programs both in our schools and in the community.
In addition, we continue to celebrate the fifth grade at their LEAD graduations. The LEAD program teaches the students how dangerous it is to try drugs even one time. Officer William Kinner teaches that “the first drug is the worst drug,” and I applaud Police Chief Christopher Chew and all the officers for continuing this important program.
The disease of addiction is at epidemic levels, and we have to do all we can to protect and help our families and neighbors.
Council proclamations
At the past council meeting we recognized June 7 as Wear Orange Day to promote National Gun Violence Awareness and honored Moms Demand Action for continuing to fight to make sure a gun tragedy does not hit our community like it has far too many times, including most recently in Virginia Beach.
I continue to pray for their families. We can and must do better. I truly believe we can protect tradition and rights while making common sense reforms that protect our children and neighbors.
We also recognized June as LGBT Pride Month. This Pride Month I am reminded that it is important that we raise a generation of children who see our differences as strengths.
We lead by example, and I encourage our residents to remember that everyone deserves to live their best life, and we need to teach others not to judge our neighbors, but to embrace our neighbors.
As mayor, I assure everyone that no matter who you love, you will always have a welcoming home here in Evesham.
