Seneca High School’s Student Council hosted its sixth annual Prom House 110 Carranza on Friday, May 17. Over 250 students attended the post-prom event meant to provide a safe, all-night event for those seniors and their dates who attended the prom.
Seneca senior and student council member Katie Gallagher said that, “The purpose of
Prom House 110 Carranza is to keep kids safe on prom night while still promoting the
Seneca Family atmosphere.” Student Council advisor and Guidance Counselor Erica
Maira said, “The Seneca after prom event is unique in that the entire group of students and
prom guests as they move together from one segment of the night to the next. It begins
with a breakfast at 12:00am. They then all move into the auditorium for a magic/illusionist
show. At the conclusion of the show, the students go into the gym area for boardwalk and
arcade games. The lip sync activity is very popular. You might think it was 3:00 in the
afternoon with energetic lip sync performances.”
Principal Jeff Spector added, “Our students’ safety is our number one priority. This event not only provides our students with a safe, drug and alcohol free place to attend after the prom, it strengthens the message that we care about them beyond the school day.”
Students watched a professional illusionist perform, participated in carnival and arcade
games, and watched a magician/comedian. Students were served breakfast donated by
Russo’s Farm Market and won donated prizes including iApple watches, FitBits, a Garmin
watch, Dell chrome books, flat screen smart TVs, blue tooth speakers, headphones, gift
cards, luggage, Keurigs, hydroflasks, a Yeti flask, and a Yeti cooler.
The grand prize was a 2009 Ford Edge donated by Medford Ford and presented by Principal Jeff Spector. Senior Laura Gibbs won the car. After winning the car, Laura said, “I am really excited and shocked. I don’t have a car and have been saving for one since I’m going to commute to college.” Medford Ford has donated a car for every Prom House 110 Carranza, valued at approximately $5,000 to $10,000 each.
The event’s success was made possible with local partnerships including Medford Ford,
Russo’s Farm Market, Seneca High School’s Parents’ Group, the Tabernacle Alliance,
student volunteers and Seneca staff including the Student Council advisors Erica Maira,
Laura Hoy, and Matt Abate.
