Longtime Teacher, Rowan Professor Honored by State Senator Sweeney

Rose Glassberg is widely known for her efforts to further a teachers’ union scholarship, and teach future educators.

Rowan University and N.J. State Senator Steve Sweeney celebrate and honor the charitable efforts of Ms. Glassberg.

N.J. Senate President Steve Sweeney praised retired Rowan University Professor Rose Glassberg, of Cherry Hill, during a ceremony for retirees at the university on Sept. 5.

“The women and men who decide to become teachers should be admired and respected as the leaders they are,” Senator Sweeney said. “When they are exceptional — as Rose was — they open doors to the world for their students. Rose did that and more.”

“As a union leader, she also fought for her teachers,” Sweeney continues. “And as a university professor, she taught future teachers. If that wasn’t enough, in retirement through the [American Federation of Teachers] Retired Group, she has raised thousands of dollars for scholarships. Rose Glassberg is simply the best of the best.”

“I am pleased that Senate President Sweeney was able to be part of this celebration of Dr. Glassberg,” Dr. Harold Sahm, retired Director of Continuing Education at Rowan University, said. “Senator Sweeney’s commitment to Rowan and supporting affordable higher education is as strong as Dr. Glassberg. His presence here shows that he understands that good educators are the foundation of all good educational institutions.”

Dr. Rose Glassberg has been the president of the AFT Retired Group for 25 years. When she became president, the AFT group was only able to give one yearly stipend to a student who was pursuing an education degree. Now, due to her leadership, the AFT offers four annual scholarships.
