HRC Community Conversation set for tomorrow night

The Haddonfield Human Relations Commission (HRC) strongly encourages the public to participate in its annual Community Conversation event, which will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at Borough Hall.

This event will focus on community mental health concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, isolation, depression, and loneliness in all ages.

A growing number of millennials and young adults are suffering from depression, according to a report from a New Jersey-based FM radio station. In addition, in 2018, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association also reported that depression diagnosis rates climbed 47 percent from 2013 through 2016.

Elderly depression can be a common problem in older populations. However, the National Institute for Aging reports the problem is “not a normal part of aging.”

The Haddonfield Human Relations Commission added that the forum will also focus on parental and elderly mental health concerns, ensuring that every age group has the tools and information they need to stay healthy and find support.

Any individual in the community who needs to seek immediate help for themselves, a friend, or a neighbor in crisis can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. For more information about the conversation itself, contact Ellen Stone at [email protected].
