The Rowan College at Burlington County Foundation, which raises funds to support scholarships for RCBC students, along with the family of the family of RCBC alumna, firefighter and paramedic Rebecca “Becky” Scott, are hosting the third annual ‘Bolt for Becky 5K’ race in memory of Scott on Sunday, April 28, at the college’s Mt. Laurel Campus.
Scott, who was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer at the age of 27, went through numerous rounds of chemotherapy, clinical trials and harsh treatments, all while continuing to work full-time as a paramedic. She battled the cancer for 18 months. She worked until 12 days before her death on Oct. 27, 2015.
All proceeds from Bolt for Becky will benefit The Rebecca Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund for students enrolled in the Virtua Paramedic Science program at RCBC.
Bolt for Becky includes a 5K run and a one-mile walk. The races start at 9 a.m. on April 28. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Student Success Center. Online registration is also available. There are discounts for RCBC alumni and first responders.
