Revitalization leading the way for Gloucester Township

Gloucester Township, in collaboration with Mystic Ginger Hair Studio and Apothecary, is bringing the first annual Arts Market to the downtown section of Blackwood on Sunday, May 19.

The new event is an effort to boost the revitalization of this historic area and promote the recently established Arts District.

This initiative began one year ago when the township hosted its first-ever Food and Craft Beer Festival to kick-start the rebranding of downtown Blackwood.

“The Arts Market is an excellent opportunity to increase foot traffic in the downtown Blackwood section of the township while engaging the community by attracting local artists, residents and other visitors,” said Mayor David Mayer.

The injection of rebranding is giving the township new life and they hope to keep it going.

“Gloucester Township is planning to host different art-related events in the area throughout the year with the Arts Market being the first of the year,” said Mayer. “The idea is to stimulate positive community interaction through art and creativity.”

The Gloucester Township Economic Development Corporation is collaborating with students of Camden County College’s Arts Department on an Augmented Reality Art walk in both the Arts District and on the college’s Blackwood Campus.

You can view artwork through the free mobile application, HP Reveal, and be able to see artwork appear on the sides of the buildings around town.

The township plans to host various events throughout the year ,and the annual Pumpkin Festival and Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival are both held in the Arts District as well.

This family-friendly event will feature over 30 vendors selling local art, crafts, and creative works, as well as food and entertainment.

The Arts Market is from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine and is open to the public and free to attend.
