Rowan College at Gloucester County and Brooks Brothers team up for the third annual “Suit A Student” performance on Thursday, April 11, as nine students walk the red carpet academically and fashionably ready to take on the career world. This year’s fashion show will also feature an American Association of Women in Community Colleges member, one of the fundraising event’s main sponsors, and a student selected by one of the College’s Business Advisory Boards.
Celebrity fashion editor Stacy Wallace-Albert returns for a second year to provide runway commentary for this unique fundraiser that partners RCGC with the business community. Wallace-Albert, principal stylist for Brooks Brothers, is a former fashion editor for Chicago magazine who has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and shared her fashion expertise with CBS-Ch. 2 Chicago, The Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune and the Home Shopping Network. With 25 years of fashion industry experience, she offers professional analysis and narrative about the Brooks Brothers clothing and accessories individually selected for each student based on their career choices and lifestyle.
This is the third year the fashion show, spearheaded by RCGC’s AAWCC, features the stylish clothing and accessories of Brooks Brothers, in addition to students receiving fashion advice and business etiquette tips from the company’s experienced salespeople. What makes this collaboration even more extraordinary is a commitment from local businesses to help students feel more confident as they go forth into the working world. Corporate sponsors, such as Bellia, Brooks Brothers, Cengage Unlimited, Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, Hoffman’s Exterminating Co., Inc., Inspira Health Network, Jefferson Health New Jersey, Laura Bishop Communications, Paulsboro Refining Company, PCH Technologies, Republic Bank and South Jersey Federal Credit Union have each volunteered to “suit” a student, dressing them for future success. The Gloucester Premium Outlets, Document Concepts Inc., South Jersey Biz and Gloucester County Institute of Technology cosmetology students are also providing support.
“The RCGC Chapter of AAWCC is proud to once again sponsor the ‘Suit A Student’ event,” stated AAWCC President Brigette Satchell, dean of the Workforce and Professional Development Institute. “Our partnership with Brooks Brothers and our other corporate sponsors support our mission of scholarship, mentorship and service. This event is more than a fashion show, it continues to be a transformational, confidence-building experience for our students.”
The career readiness fashion event highlights the attributes and goals of each RCGC student model. Students were required to submit an application to become one of the nine lucky participants to receive a suit, dress or outfit, including accessories and a makeover.
The “Suit A Student” Fashion Show on April 11 begins at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. A “meet and mingle” reception will be held in the College Center following the event to introduce guests to the evening’s fashionable RCGC stars and show sponsors.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and can be purchased online by visiting RCGC.edu/SuitAStudent. Student tickets are free with ID and are available at the Eugene J. McCaffrey College Center, room 103. Proceeds from the event fund the College’s AAWCC scholarship endowment.
