Weekly roundup: Challenger League highlights this week in Williamstown

In a week with a lot of ups and downs, the Challenger League was the highlight of the best that Williamstown has to offer

The members of the Challenger League pose for a picture with the Williamstown Braves high school baseball team after the game on May 8.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays through the spring, the Challenger League will play the wonderful game of baseball at the Church Street complex in Williamstown. The league is for children with disabilities. “I just want them to have fun and say ‘I play ball’.” Coach Heather Brown said. “The kids are active, they’re out playing a sport, they’re not at home on the computer, it gets them out and running around and having a good time.”

Dr. Christina Nase was honored for her work in the STEM field

Nase, who has her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Florida and a B.S. in chemistry from Bloomsbury University, began her education on a different path. Originally planning to major in nursing, she took a biochemistry class as part of her coursework, which quickly ignited a passion that lead her in a different direction. “I fell in love with biochemistry right away,” Nase explains. “I could see so many real world examples of chemistry in my everyday life.”

Williamstown resident charged with homicide

Susan Coffin-White, 50, of Williamstown, was charged on May 10, with the death of 55-year-old David Morris, of Williamstown, stemming from an earlier domestic violence related assault.
