District elementary students showcase talent, academic skills at Board of Education meeting
At the Sept. 26 Board of Education meeting, Wedgwood students and staff presented their academic accomplishments and improvements in reading and writing skills, while students from Hurffville Elementary School with the Changing Our World Project showcased their musical talent with an original song and video, “It’s Up to You. It’s Up to Me.” Also, In receipt of the district’s special counsel report in regard to an investigation on Washington Township Principal Association contracts, which officials said details were protected with attorney-client privilege, Vice President Bob Abbott presented the board with recommendations from the attorney to prevent additional investigations in the future. The board voted on one of six recommendations before tabling the discussion until a typed, clear document was provided.
Council looks ahead to fall community gatherings
At the Wednesday, Sept. 27 meeting, council approved a number of resolutions in preparation for upcoming fall community event, including Trunk or Treat, the first-ever Food Truck Festival and Community Clean-Up Day. Also, Council introduced an ordinance on first reading that proposes to change the zoning from institutional to rural for the property known as 245 Chapel Heights Road in Sewell.
WTHS seniors receive National Merit Scholarship accolades
Washington Township High School senior Stephen Cozzone has been named a semifinalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Cozzone is among 16,000 semifinalists in the 63rd annual NMSP and can now complete scholarship applications for consideration as a finalist in the competition. Two Washington Township High School seniors have also been named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
WTHS receives certification as New Jersey Future Ready School
Washington Township Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf, members of the Board of Education and the administration of Washington Township High School announced the recent certification of Washington Township High School as a New Jersey Future Ready School. Future Ready Schools — New Jersey, a coalition of New Jersey Institute of Technology, the New Jersey School Boards Association and the New Jersey Department of Education, is a certification program designed to support the organization of schools’ and districts’ efforts through the national Future Ready Framework.
