The team placed fifth at the South Jersey sectional meet
The Washington Township High School gymnastics team, under the direction of first-year head coach Lauren Pellecchia-Kupiec and assistant coach Missy Coleman captured its second consecutive Olympic Conference championship with a 7–0–1 record, qualifying for the South Jersey sectional meet where they placed fifth.
Included in the team’s sensational season were wins against rivals Seneca, Shawnee, Lenape and Cherokee high schools
“I am extremely proud of this group of athletes,” Pellecchia-Kupiec said. “Their hard work and determination shine through in all their accomplishments. It is such a privilege to coach such amazing ladies.”
WTHS top sectional competitors included junior Lauren Cuccinello (third place on both parallel bars and balance beam) and senior Allyce Andricola (fifth place on balance beam), both of whom qualified for the state meet. Avarie Berndlmaier, Nikki Iatarola, Alyssa Bundy and Alyssa Lombardi also qualified to compete at sectionals.
The team also turned out strong performances at the South Jersey Novice Meet on Nov. 1, including senior captains Maddie Harris and Ariel Thompson, junior Alyssa Lombardi, sophomores Julia Robinson, Julie Andricola and Olivia Green, and freshmen Gabriella DeLuca and Izabela Repousis, all of whom medaled at the event.
“Gymnastics at Washington Township High School is among the most winningest sports throughout the years,” Pellecchia-Kupiec said. “We have been lucky enough to have experienced athletes who represented our school well and have had great parents to support us.”
