WTHS dance department to host 15th annual concert

The concert will incorporate techniques ranging from ballet and pointe, to belly dancing and Afro-Carribbean.

Members of the Washington Township High School Dance Department and Dance Company will treat guests to the talents of current dancers and accomplished alumni during “XV,” the program’s 15th Annual Dance Concert.

The concert will take place on Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the school’s Investors Bank Performing Arts Center. Poster and t-shirt designs for the event were created by WTHS senior Maria Iannone.

Graduates from the school’s first dance class will perform alongside current dancers to videos created by the school’s Monthly Rewind program, that will accompany many of the performances. The concert will showcase the versatility of the dancers and will incorporate many styles, including traditional techniques, from ballet, pointe, modern and tap to contemporary hip hop, belly dancing and Afro-Caribbean.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming back two Township dance alumnae, Alex Monte Carlo and Katie Pasternak, to serve as guest choreographers for our Dance Company,” said dance teacher Christina Richardson, who directs the school’s program alongside her colleague, Eisa Jackson. “Alex graduated from the University of the Arts with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance in 2014, and is currently performing with Project Moshen Dance Company in Philadelphia. She has graciously returned for a fourth year to teach our tap ensemble.”

“Katie is currently majoring in business at Rowan University and minoring in dance,” Richardson continued. “She also performed as a Philadelphia Soulmate for the Philadelphia Soul, a professional arena football team. This year, Katie choreographed our hip hop, belly dancing and alumni belly dancing ensembles. We are so incredibly grateful to all of our alumni for sharing their talents with us.”

Reserved seating is required. Advance tickets are $5, $10 and $15, and can be purchased through the IBPAC Box Office at (856) 218–8902. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
