Earth Month events draw community members

Throughout April, the Environmental Commission hosted a number of Earth “Month” events and activities for Washington Township residents.

Earth Day was celebrated all month long by the Washington Township community. Throughout the month of April, the community was invited to a handful of activities to help celebrate the environment.

On April 14, naturalist Mike Hogan, of the South Jersey Land and Water Trust, led a group on an informational hike through the nature trails of Washington Lake Park.

On April 21, participants were able to come together to assemble their own rain barrels at a Rain Barrel Workshop hosted by the Environmental Commission. Rain barrels are an environmentally friendly water conservation tool used to collect and store rain water, for later use in watering gardens. Attendees were also able to paint a reusable tote bag as part of the Earth Month activities.

Additionally, the community garden officially opened on Sunday, April 22. Residents can still purchase a plot at the garden.
