Mayor’s Message: La Belle Vie Salon, “No Knock” ordinance update and women’s event

The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Special to The Sun: Special to The Sun: Mayor Joann Gattinelli with the employees at La Belle Vie Salon on Oct. 5.

La Belle Vie Salon

On Oct. 5, I visited La Belle Vie Salon for their event publicizing the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The salon was offering VIP hair extensions as well as pink pumpkins for sale and pink extensions. There were sculptures of many women that were decorated and were on display for breast cancer awareness. I was also informed that the salon was fundraising for a local charity, Bringing Hope Home, bringinghopehome.org. This is a nonprofit organization that provides local families with financial and emotional support. I would like to thank owner Jackie Boucher and her employees for making me feel welcome and for sharing all of their inspiring work with me. La Belle Vie Salon is located at 5901 Route 42, Turnersville.

“No Knock”

At the Sept. 12 public meeting, council approved a “No Knock” ordinance. This ordinance protects residents from unwanted business solicitation at their homes. “No Knock” stickers and applications are now available in the clerk’s office. Applications will also be posted on the township website at www.TownshipNJ.com. Any business applying for a soliciting license in the township must first register with the Township Clerk. Once they register, they will receive a “No Knock” list. Anyone violating the “No Knock” ordinance could be fined up to $1,000. The business must renew its license with the clerk annually and they will be given an updated “No Knock” list on a monthly basis. I would like to thank council vice president Sean Longfellow for championing this initiative and the rest of council for its support.

Women Entrepreneurs and Women Owned Businesses Meeting

I am pleased to announce that the economic development office will be hosting a “Women Entrepreneurs and Women Owned Businesses” meeting on Oct. 24 at the Washington Township Municipal Building in the council room from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.. This event was created to help women network and converse with other women who also own their own businesses and are entrepreneurs. There will be light refreshments, great conversation, and several guest speakers including Michelle Nocito, Karoline Moxham, and Michelle Shirey. If you are interested in attending this event or would like more information about the event, you may contact our economic development consultant, Nancy Mozzachio at [email protected] or at (856) 589–0520 ext. 261.

Joann Gattinelli is the Mayor of Washington Township. She can be reached at [email protected].
