Mayor’s message: Senior citizen Valentine’s Day luncheon, happy birthday Washington Township and budget meetings

The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Senior citizen Valentine’s Day luncheon

On Feb. 14, the Washington Township Police Department hosted a Valentine’s Day luncheon for the senior citizens of Washington Township. I was happy to attend this luncheon along with council president Joe Perry, councilwoman Andra Williams, business administrator Jason Gonter, township clerk Leo Selb, chief of police Patrick Gurcsik, and many members of the Washington Township Police Department. The Washington Township Senior Citizen Center was decked out in red and pink for the occasion and there was also a DJ playing some fan favorites. There was a huge turnout at this event and all of the seniors present seemed to be enjoying the music, food, and company. I would like to thank Gurcsik and the rest of the police department for making our senior citizens feel appreciated and for treating them to a fun day. I would also like to thank Aversa’s Bakery for catering the event and for Egizi Funeral Home for sponsoring this event.

Happy birthday Washington Township

I am happy to announce Sunday, Feb. 17 marked the 183rd birthday of Washington Township! Washington Township was established on Feb. 17, 1836 as a part of Gloucester County. After all of these years and many changes along the way, Washington Township is still thriving and I am thrilled to be a part of its continued growth. If you would like to learn more about Washington Township’s history, you can visit the Township website at www.twp.washington.nj.us, under the “residents” tab. I look forward to being a part of more positive additions and initiatives that will support the development of Washington Township!

Small group budget meetings

Once again, my administration is offering small group budget meetings for residents to ask any questions they have or to offer any constructive ideas they may have regarding the 2019 municipal budget. Our business administrator, along with our chief financial officer, and assistant chief financial officer, will be hosting these small group meetings. For your convenience, we are offering a variety of dates and times for these budget meetings. We ask that you contact the business administrator’s administrative assistant, Lori Morello to register for your preferred meeting date. She can be reached at [email protected]. You can visit our website at www.twp.washington.nj.us for the meeting dates; they will be listed under the “calendar” section. Also listed on the calendar, you will find two open public budget meetings for all residents to attend; no sign ups necessary for these two meetings. We look forward to hearing some constructive ideas from the residents of Washington Township.

Joann Gattinelli is the Mayor of Washington Township. She can be reached at [email protected].
