“The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln” presented at Heggan library

The first-person interpretation will cover the details of Lincoln’s life and the Civil War

The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library will present “The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln” on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.

Discover the personal side of Lincoln in this first-person interpretation presented by Bob Gleason with the American Historical Theatre. This program covers the great man’s formative years, his courtship and marriage, the beginnings and development of his abolitionist viewpoint, and his first — though not very successful — trip to Congress. Discussion points also include the causes of the Civil War, major events and turning points within the war, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Gettysburg Address.

Gleason’s in-depth historical research and audience interactivity have become hallmarks of Gleason’s historical portrayals. Over the years, he has been featured at the White House Visitor’s Center, Ford’s Theater, the National Constitution Center and Independence Hall, as well as many schools, museums, historic sites and libraries.

This program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is produced by the American Historical Theatre.

This program is free and open to everyone. Advance online or phone registration is required at www.hegganlibrary.org, or call (856) 589–3334.
