It was quite the weekend for Washington Township Soccer as five of its teams made it to the 2017 New Jersey Cup Finals with two teams walking away with titles in New Brunswick.

On May 7, the Washington United Fever and the Washington Township Comets took home 2017 New Jersey Cup titles with the Washington United Arsenal reaching the semifinals, Washington United Premier and Washington United Bayern both reaching the finals and finishing as runner-up in their respective age groups.

The ’02 Fever capped off their title with wins over Princeton in a penalty kick shootout in the semifinals and a hard fought 2–1 win over Mt. Laurel United in the final. The Fever, currently ranked №19 in the state according to gotsoccer.com, got goals from Hailey Sulzback and Arianna Carmen both on assist from Ally Petro. More importantly, the Fever allowed just four goals over five games with a stout defense led by Isabelle Pingol.

The Comets, now ranked 14 in the state after their cup win, finished a stretch of five games in which they allowed just two goals on the way to their title behind a stingy defense led by Natalia Cappaccio in goal and anchored by Josie Curran and Abby Kulikowski.

An underdog throughout the tournament, the ’04 Comets, battled to wins over №9 TBAA Sonic in the title game, №18 Manalapan Sting in the semi finals, №19 PDA Shore Sting, №15 Bordentown Jaguars and №23 SJEB Benfica.

Both teams will advance to regional play in June.
