Town hall’s move is official

By ROBERT LINNEHAN | The Voorhees Sun

It’s official. The Voorhees Township municipal hall will be moving to the Voorhees Town Center. Members of the Township Committee unanimously approved a bond of $6.1 million for the project at a meeting this week.

More than 50 residents attended the meeting, but only a handful took the opportunity to speak to the Committee.

Township representatives assured members of the community that the project will be tax neutral. The possible sale of the current facility, historically low interest rates and construction costs lend itself to the timing of the move, officials said.

The current police facilities will not be moving to the Town Center, according to Administrator Larry Spellman. This significantly lowered the price of the project and made the move possible this year, he said.

The police facilities are about 10 years old, he said, and is in nowhere near the ramshackle conditions of the current township building.

The total cost of the project will likely be $6.1 million.
