The Camden County Department of Public Works is currently reconstructing three miles of Haddonfield-Berlin Road (CR 561) from Evesham Road to Laurel Oak Road in Voorhees Township. The County is in the final phase of a $2.5 million reconstruction of the Route 561 throughout the Voorhees corridor and will now start maintenance on the remainder of the heavily traveled roadway.
Beginning on Monday, Dec. 3, concrete road repairs will begin in the vicinity of Morris Drive in Cherry Hill Township. This phase of the construction is scheduled for the next week, but as always the precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists should plan to use alternant routes to avoid delays
“After finishing construction in the Voorhees section of Route 561 this high volume roadway needs maintenance work on its concrete foundation in Cherry Hill,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “This project like its larger counterpart in the adjacent section will enhance the roadway and make driving easier on drivers throughout the County.”
The reconstruction of Haddonfield-Berlin Road will improve the flow of traffic on one of the county’s main thoroughfares, while making the intersections handicap accessible. The project also includes drainage improvements and landscaping. The road carries a daily average of 13,500 vehicles in each direction.
The Camden County Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining over 400 center line miles of county roadway, more than a thousand miles of storm drain infrastructure and dozens of bridges throughout the region. This year the Freeholder Board has invested more than $40 million for county road improvement projects in 2012 alone.
