Suspicious vehicle on Route 561 deemed false alarm

A suspicious vehicle that caused Eastern Regional High School and Kellman Brown Academy to undergo a lockdown was deemed a false alarm, according to Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutors Office.

Between 5 to 6 a.m. Gibbsboro Police responded to a report of suspicious vehicle parked at a dentist office on Haddonfield-Berlin Road, he said.

The vehicle had an empty gun holster on the dashboard and a bag thought to be an ammunition case, which turned out to be for tools, Laughlin said.

The Voorhees Police placed the schools on lockdown and closed Route 561 for precaution, according to a release.

The driver of the vehicle will not face any charges.

Additional officers were also assigned to area schools while the investigation was in process, the release said.

Eastern students remained in class and at 11:05 a.m. the police lifted the lockdown, an announcement said.

Camden County Sheriffs Bomb Squad, Gibbsboro Police, Voorhees Police, Clementon Police and more responded to the incident.

Although the protective measures were taken as a precaution, Laughlin said the incident in Boston caused the quick reaction to secure the area.

“Nobody wants to be the person to walk past it and not do anything about it,” he said.
