Mayors Column- Veterans Wall of Honor

“…You’ve never lived until you’ve almost died, for those who fought for it, life has a flavor the protected will never know.” Anonymous Vietnam Veteran

Voorhees Township is pleased to announce the creation of a Veterans Wall of Honor in tribute to those who have worn the uniform of the United States Military. This Wall will pay homage to veterans who have completed honorable service in the United States Armed Forces.

Voorhees Township is proud of our veterans, so with the generous assistance of local donors, we will give recognition to our honorable veterans who have served our country. The Wall will be located inside the Voorhees Town Hall at 2400 Voorhees Town Center. Each honored veteran can have his or her military service, including conflict/campaigns served, peace-time service, medals awarded and other information recognized. The Wall will consist of a plaque for each veteran containing a 5×7 picture along with a brief description of the veteran’s military service.

Recently, letters and forms were sent to all Voorhees veterans or their surviving spouses that we have on record. We would like to honor any qualified Voorhees veteran or any veteran who may not be from Voorhees but is an immediately family member (spouse, parent, sibling our child) of a Voorhees resident.

Our recently retired Municipal Clerk, Jeanette Schelberg, is a veteran and has been a tireless advocate for veteran causes. She has given her time and money toward making our dream of a Wall of Honor into a reality. On behalf of the other members of the Voorhees Township Committee and our Voorhees Community, thank you to Jeanette for her passion.

If you are a Voorhees veteran who has received a letter and accompanying form, please complete the form and return it so we can honor you. If you are a Voorhees veteran who has not received the letter or a Voorhees resident with an immediate family member who is a qualified veteran and you would like to be on the Wall of Honor, please contact Jeanette Schelberg at [email protected] or at (609) 868–6338. Letters and forms can be returned to Jeanette c/o Voorhees Township Municipal Clerk’s Office, 2400 Voorhees Town Center, Voorhees, NJ 08043. You can also visit our website for more information at www.voorheesnj.com.

We anticipate that our Wall of Honor will be unveiled in the fall and expect this to be a lasting tribute that will grow annually.
