Three workshops on financial literacy for women offered by Literacy Volunteers of America

Literacy Volunteers of America in partnership with Camden County Library and the Camden County One-Stop Career Center are offering three, free workshops to help women who need and want to develop their financial literacy skills.

“Control Your Money: Women and Financial Literacy” are 90-minute workshops that will address a number of pertinent topics including: Needs vs. Wants, a four step spending plan; Suggestions for Reducing Expenses and Increasing Income; Understanding Credit and Borrowing; Saving and Banking; Avoiding Money Traps; Family Financial Literacy; and Dreaming and Planning.

The workshops are being offered at the following locations, dates and times:

Riletta L. Cream Ferry Avenue Branch
Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6–7:30 p.m.

One Stop at Camden
Thursday, Oct. 15, 10 -11:30 a.m.

South County Regional Branch
Thursday, Nov. 19, 7–8:30 p.m.

Earlier this year Camden County Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to Camden County Library, announced that Literacy Volunteers of Camden County was one of ten ProLiteracy affiliated organizations nationwide selected to participate in the grant-funded pilot program.

“Workshops administered by trained facilitators with backgrounds in finance will be offered throughout the county,” explained Freeholder Leonard. “This will give participants the tools they need to take control of their money and the knowledge to achieve their financial goals.”

ProLiteracy received support for the program from American Express. Pilot programs receive copies of New Reader’s Press “Control Your Money” workbook and gain access to a pilot mobile app focused on reinforcing financial literacy lessons outside of the classroom.
More financial literacy workshops for women are planned for next year. For more information, contact the Camden County Library System at (856) 772–1636 or the Camden County Career One-Stop Center at 856–614–3150.
