Cherry Hill resident named 2019 HVI Distinguished Service Award winner
John Fox with Air King Ventilation Products was recently honored at the 2019 HVI spring meeting.
The Home Ventilating Institute announced its 2019 HVI Distinguished Service Award Winner, John Fox with Air King Ventilation Products, at the 2019 HVI Spring Meeting in Clearwater Beach, Fla.
The HVI Distinguished Service Award was established in 2009 and is awarded by the Board of Directors to distinguished representatives and partners of HVI who has served well and brought honor to themselves and the Home Ventilating Institute.
Fox, a Cherry Hill resident, was named HVI’s 2019 award recipient for his unwavering commitment and loyalty to HVI. He is the “voice of reason” stated one nominator. “John has earned the respect of all members and is the best example of how a member can participate and be involved. Selecting him for this award sets the bar for the younger members of the association. John epitomizes how an HVI volunteer member can balance their company needs with the best interests of the HVI organization.”
“I have been in the industry long enough to have seen the past recipients of this award,” Fox said, “and I have the utmost respect for those individuals, and I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be considered in the same class as some of the past award winners.”
Fox has served in multiple roles within HVI and the residential ventilation industry. Currently, his roles include chair of the HVI Lab Oversight Committee, and chair of HVI Risk Assessment & Mitigation Committee. Fox served as HVI Chairman of the Board from September 2011 to October 2013 and has also served as a board member in several other roles, including chairman for the Air Movement and Control Association. Additionally, John has served as the president of the Healthy Air Research and Certification Authority since its founding in 2015. HARCA is an organization of like-minded individuals with lots of different skills and backgrounds interested in solving the same problem. It provides HVI members cutting edge research for products and product development and the possibilities of different ways to go about solving issues of bad indoor air quality. A key role for HARCA is to provide an educational resource tool for people to go to and learn how to properly ventilate in different conditions.
When Fox first joined HVI, he knew very little about the association and had been with Air King for only a month or two when he attended his first HVI meeting. It was at these meetings where he learned the purpose of the association and gradually became more involved as the possibilities became apparent. Fox stated the best thing he did when he joined HVI was volunteer as much as he could. He would encourage any member coming in, or looking at joining HVI to do the same, as they will find it will make them a better person and improve their company’s status as an industry competitor.
When asked what he is most proud of to-date, Fox said throughout his entire life he has been involved in, either commercially or residentially, making the indoor environment healthier for its inhabitants, and he can proudly say he has never been involved in technologies which contribute to destroying the environment in order to provide another good. Fox said the bulk of his career has been dedicated to making people’s lives a little bit better. The HVI Distinguished Service Award confirms that Fox’s dedication and support to HVI is irrefutable. The example he sets on what it means to be a member is demonstrated through his leadership, contributions, and the respect of his peers while exemplifying the value and experience one can gain through membership within HVI.
