Bunker Hill Middle School celebrates Mardi Gras

Press release from Washington Township School District

Special to The Sun: Madame Pecheux’s fourth-period class poses for a group photo during their parade.

They were letting the good times roll — Laissez les bon temps roulet, for those in the know — in Madame Kiki Pecheux’s French classes at Bunker Hill Middle School on March 5. The students celebrated Mardi Gras, one of the most joyous days on the French calendar, eating King Cake, crepes with Nutella, fruit and chocolate, and sporting masks, beads and other accessories.

The classes had spent recent days designing replica Mardi Gras floats out of shoeboxes, while learning more about the holiday. On Tuesday, they were encouraged to bring in items for the celebration, including crepes, beignets (donuts), fresh strawberries, chocolate, Nutella, sparkling cider and more.

After their feast, the classes took to the hallways, parading with their shoebox floats into different classrooms to wish everyone a “Bonne Fete de Mardi Gras” and tossing candy to the other students.
