Richard Donnelly, Jr. , owner of The Sun Newspapers and more, passes away at 61

Throughout his life, Donnelly built a large distribution and media company as a self-made business man.

Richard W. Donnelly Jr., of Voorhees, passed away with his family around him on Dec. 14. Donnelly was 61.

Born in Philadelphia to Marie (nee Kubis) and Richard Donnelly, he is survived by his mother; his loving wife Kathleen (nee Finnegan) Donnelly; his children Sean Donnelly (Christina), Daniel Donnelly (Alisan), Michelle Donnelly, Matthew Donnelly, and Brendan Donnelly; and his siblings Marie Butterly (James) and Michael Donnelly (Charlene).

Donnelly is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and incredible friends.

Throughout his life, Donnelly built a large distribution and media company as a self-made business man.

He started Donnelly Distribution out of a garage nearly 40 years ago and grew that company to where it is today — delivering millions of circulars each week.

In recent years, Donnelly continued to grow his company to include publishing local newspapers, as Newspaper Media Group, which included The Northeast Times, The Sun Newspapers and various other publications throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

His business focused on bringing communities together, and he lived this out in his professional and personal life.

He devoted his life to his family, friends, and his buddy Taco. In his free time, Donnelly shared the things he loved with the people he loved — the beach, his boat and nothing but good times.

He was always “living the dream.” He will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday morning 10 a.m. to noon at the Costantino Funeral Home, located at 231 W. White Horse Pike in Berlin.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for 12:30 p.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Road in Gibbsboro. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Berlin.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gibbsboro United Methodist Church, 30 Clementon Road, Gibbsboro, NJ 08026.

Digital donations can be made to www.gibbsboroumc.org.
