Also at the latest meeting, a community member brought up traffic light concerns in wake of the fatal car crash on Sicklerville Road.
At its Oct. 11 session, Gloucester Township Council passed a resolution to dedicate the Tot Lot Playground area located at the Raymond A. Mirra State Street Park in remembrance of Nico J. Cassabria.
Cassabria, who was a Blackwood resident, succumbed to his battle with Neuroblastoma in July.
The 10-year-old was named an honorary member of the Blackwood Fire Company, the Navy’s USS Topeka and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office.
Council also discussed the tragic vehicle accident that unfolded along Sicklerville Road between Dunlin Way and Mullen Drive on Sunday, Oct. 8, that claimed the lives of four Winslow Township residents.
Neighbors of the immediate community have expressed concern about the short time span of the traffic light coming off Jarvis Road to turn onto Sicklerville, according to Ray Polidoro of the Gloucester Township Republican Municipal Committee.
The green light only lasts for about two to three seconds, according to residents of the area.
“It seems to be the feeling of the folks in that particular area that, because in higher traffic times, that folks would take Dunlin Way to avoid that light,” Polidoro said.
The Gloucester Township Police Department plans to investigate the traffic light.
Council also honored former Councilwoman Margaret “Marge” Martinis of Erial, who passed away on Oct. 3. She served Gloucester Township in a number of capacities, including the Planning Board and Board of Fire Commissioners of Fire District №6.
“I served on Council with Marge the last two years she was on Council,” Council President Orlando Mercado said. “(She) was a wonderful community servant, and our condolences to her and her family.”
