Colin Cattell has won a place at the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America’s Washington Workshops.
Colin Cattell, a junior at Palmyra High School, has won a full scholarship to attend the Washington Workshops Congressional Seminar in Washington D.C. Cattell earned the spot by submitting an essay for the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America’s Congressional Essay Contest.
Since 1977, the National Patriotic Service Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America has conducted an annual national essay contest. This year’s topic was “Why was the division of power between the President and Senate to nominate and confirm a Supreme Court Justice created by our founding fathers?”
Cattell wrote a response to the essay prompt which challenged students to reflect on the division of power between the executive and legislative branches of our government.
Cattell’s closing argument stated that the founding fathers “believed that the rights of the outnumbered must be protected and that tyranny is greatest threat to the rights and liberties of the American people.”
Colin has an interest in government and politics, which he will take with him as he represents Palmyra High School this summer.
