Palmyra’s Taj Harris commits to Syracuse University

The rising senior at Palmyra High School will look to continue both his athletic and educational career.

One of Burlington County’s top high school football players, made his decision for life after high school.

On June 24, Palmyra’s Taj Harris committed to Syracuse University in hopes to continue his football career. The rising senior made his decision, ahead of his final football season at Palmyra High School.

“I chose Syracuse because I would like to get involved with broadcasting and they were ranked #1 in the country,” said Harris. “They also throw the ball a lot on offense, and I would enjoy being in that plan.”

Harris broke onto the scene as a sophomore, totaling 1,104 yards and 13 touchdowns on 50 catches at wide-receiver. In 2016, Harris was used in many ways by Head Coach Jack Geisel, seeing time at quarterback, wide receiver, and safety. “My coach stays on top of me, and even though I am already working out, he makes sure I stay committed,” said Harris.

Harris is also a basketball player at Palmyra, who hit the 1,000th point milestone back on Jan. 10. “Besides focusing on my studies and football, I would also like to try basketball because I feel I could do it,” said Harris.

Harris also was interested in Maryland, North Carolina State, Rutgers, and Wake Forest but felt the most comfortable with Syracuse.

“My mother, coaches, and family all helped me through this process, but they understood that where I chose I felt the best at,” said Harris.

Harris joins previous Palmyra grads Max Smyth and Kelvin Harmon, who are at Monmouth University and N.C. State respectively. “They are like brothers to me, whenever they come home we are always at the field together,” said Harris. “We stay in touch a lot, and both congratulated me once I made my decision.”

Now that Harris has made his decision, he can prepare for his final football season at Palmyra High School. “I can’t wait for the season, so I will continue to prepare like I have been doing for the opener,” said Harris.
