Gloucester County Autism Walk scheduled for Oct. 7

The event will combine a morning 5K a walk around the RiverWinds campus.

For the 11th year, RiverWinds will be home to the Gloucester County Autism Walk on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event will combine a morning 5K, followed by opening ceremonies by Gloucester County dignitaries and a walk around the RiverWinds campus.

Michael Donahue, president of the Board of Gloucester County Special Services Education Foundation, said the funds gathered from this event stay in Gloucester County.

“All funds raised from this event will stay right here in Gloucester County and support initiatives such as social skills training, respite care and workshops for parents and educators that directly benefit students with specialized needs,” Donahue said. “We, as an organization, are growing each year, and have been able to integrate scholarships, community workshops, and much more because of the walk.”

Year after year, more than 2,000 individuals come out in support of this charity event, and from adults to children, there will be something to cater to the interests of all those who attend.

For the second year, runners are invited to partake in the 5K, occurring before the walk, with registration for the 5K beginning at 7:30 a.m. The walk registration will begin at 9 a.m., and will kick-off at 11 a.m. The event will also feature family activities, a basket raffle and vendors will be showcased throughout the day to entertain all participants.

Registration is available for runners, walkers, vendors and volunteers by visiting www.gcssef.org.

This year’s event is generously supported by the corporate community including Roma Community Foundation, VWR, Cento Foods, and Main Street Investment Group, and annual sponsors Holman Auto, Lincoln Investments, Glassboro Thrift Village and BB&T.
