Job searching can be draining…here’s some help

Learn from Rowan College instructors on how to succeed in applying for jobs

Scrolling through job listing sites can be monotonous and, at times, discouraging.

Many job sites are user-friendly and help cut through a lot of irrelevant information, but you are still on your own.

Over the course of the next three months the GCLS Mullica Hill Library will host sessions on job seeking. These sessions will be presented by instructors from the Career Advancement and Planning Center from Rowan College at Gloucester County.

The first session at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, is called the Basics of Job Searching. During this session individuals will learn how to better navigate search websites and submit online applications.

A session called The Modern Resume is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29 and 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21. The purpose for these sessions is to help people update their resumes for the 2018 job markets and see examples of successful resumes in specific fields.

At 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, instructors will teach the intricacies of the interviewing process. Tips and example questions will be provided and participants will even receive the opportunity to practice phone and in-person interviews with professionals.

The final meeting is called Networking and Job Fairs. Held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 5, job seekers will learn the importance of first impressions and the value of networking both in person and online.

Programs are funded by a grant from the NJ Department of Labor Division of Workforce Development. Advance registration is recommended. Register online using the Classes/Events calendar at www.gcls.org, or call the library at 856–223–6050.
