Friends School Mullica Hill welcomes new interim head of school, looks ahead to upcoming school year
Friends School Mullica Hill welcomed approximately 135 preschool through eighth-grade students to its classrooms last year, from 26 zip codes. The new interim Head of School Matthew Bradley looks forward to the return of bustling hallways and full classrooms at the start of the school year on Sept. 7. Director of Communication and Marketing Jared Valdez said many initiatives and programs new and returning students can look forward to this school year include additions and installments made through the school’s Building Greatness campaign. Valdez said to kick-off the start of the school year, students in sixth through eighth grade will travel on various trip in the fall to bond and set goals for the upcoming school year.
‘I just want to race’
It took a lot of convincing for homeschooled Mullica Hill 7-year-old Jamison Devlin’s mom to allow him to get behind the wheel of a junior dragster. Traveling an average speed of 52 miles per hour on a one-eighth mile track in a 14-foot long dragster, all within the constraints of 13.9 seconds, Jamison said he wouldn’t want to do anything else. Jamison will be competing in his last points race at Atco on Aug. 27, with hopes of doing well enough to finish in the overall second place position.
Committee appoints full-time police officer, parking prohibited along Church Street
Harrison Township Committee passed an ordinance prohibiting parking along both sides of Church Street, while an additional full-time police officer Anel Kalabic was sworn in for the police department at last week’s meeting. Additionally, At the meeting, Chief of Police Thomas Mills provided the department’s activity report for July, which included 2,721 calls for service, almost 14,000 miles patrolled, 33 reports of crashes, 355 traffic summonses and 45 arrests, 19 of which were drug related, while seven were driving under the influence.
