Police alerting public of new internet challenge

The following comes from the Harrison Township Police

It has come to our attention that there is a viral internet game circulating on social media called the “Momo Challenge.” It features a scary avatar who asks children to perform various tasks. When they don’t finish the tasks, it threatens them.

Things can escalate into serious violent acts, including suicide. It’s violent, daring and fronted by the creepy avatar popping up all over social media and messaging services. It’s reportedly been linked to at least three suicides around the world.

The “Momo Challenge” and avatar has appeared on dozens of social media accounts on multiple platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The challenge has sparked worldwide warnings about it’s potential to harm young people who may be lured into playing.

Please remember to have a talk with you children about internet and app safety.
