Earthquake rattles New Jersey

An earthquake that centered in Virginia rattled parts of the East Coast this afternoon. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred at 1:51 p.m.

The epicenter was in Louisa County, Virginia, 41 miles northwest of Richmond and 83 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Shocks from the quake were felt as far north as New York City and as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C. Buildings in Philadelphia, Newark and Washington, D.C. were evacuated, according to multiple reports.
