Harrington Middle School students offer ideas for nonprofits to expand impact in community
It was all about giving back to the community at Harrington Middle School this week when teams of seventh-grade students gave presentations on ways to enhance the reach of local nonprofits as part of the students’ work with the Giving Cycle organization. This year, nonprofits students chose included the Alliance for Living Ocean, The Food Trust, the NJ Tree Foundation, the Animal Welfare Association, The Joy of Sox and the Red Cross of Southwest New Jersey.
Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education submits tentative 2017–2018 school year budget to county
The Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education held a brief meeting this week to adopt the tentative 2017–2018 school year budget for submission to the executive county superintendent. Appropriations for the tentative budget total $74.1 million, with the average Mt. Laurel homeowner with a property assessed at $237,700 set to see an increase of $42.79 next year for their K-8 school tax bill.
Mt. Laurel students win Widener University High School Leadership Award
Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, is recognizing 174 area students, including two from Mt. Laurel, who are winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards. In its sixth year, the program recognizes students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to “stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.” Local Mt. Laurel winners include Asia Jones and Jonathan Procopio.
