A 25-year-old Nutley man has been charged with causing the death of another motorist during a collision on Route 73.
The following information is on file with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office:
Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Mt. Laurel Chief of Police Stephen Riedener announced that a 25-year-old Nutley man has been charged with causing the death of another motorist during a collision on Route 73 in Mt. Laurel during the summer.
William Dunbar was charged with aggravated manslaughter in the first degree and vehicular homicide in the second degree.
Officials say the charges are based upon the evidence discovered during the investigation, as well as the results of toxicology tests performed on blood drawn from Dunbar following the collision.
According to officials, Dunbar surrendered on Nov. 9 at the Mt. Laurel Police Department and was later lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mt. Holly. He was also scheduled to have an appearance in superior court.
Officials say the investigation revealed that Dunbar was allegedly driving northbound on Route 73 at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour when he crashed into the rear of another vehicle traveling in the same direction near Church Road on Aug. 19.
Christopher Pappas, 34, of Howell, was the driver of the vehicle that Dunbar allegedly struck, with Pappas later pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say the force of the alleged impact caused his car to spin and overturn before coming to rest after striking a utility pole. Officials say neither vehicle had passengers.
The case will be prepared for presentation to a Burlington County grand jury by assistant prosecutor Thaddeus Drummond, supervisor of the Collision and Accident Reconstruction Unit for the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition, the investigation was conducted by the Mt. Laurel Police Department, with assistance from the prosecutor’s office and state police. The lead investigator was Mt. Laurel Police Sgt. Nicholas DiGirolamo.
