Rancocas Nature Center sponsoring search for Santa Claus in Rancocas State Park on Dec. 10

Locals are invited to join for a family-friendly holiday adventure as they look for signs of Santa along the park’s trails.

Officials with the Rancocas Nature Center say an elf has sent word this holiday season that Santa Claus is too big for his suit this year, so Mrs. Claus has sent him on a world-wide-workout to burn off those excess inches before Christmas arrives.

With that in mind, Rancocas Nature Center’s sanctuary director Susan Buffalino said the top-secret insider elf has also confirmed that Santa will be passing through Rancocas State Park on Sunday, Dec. 10.

Due to this news, Rancocas Nature Center will sponsor a special search party, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 10, to find out if Santa will be jogging, hiking, mountain-biking or power-walking through Rancocas State Park.

“Join us for a holiday family-fun adventure as we look for signs of Santa along the trails,” Buffalino said.

According to officials, the search-party will track Santa through the woods and find signs of him along the way, such as antlers or hoof tracks, or evidence of gifts along the trail. Children will also be able to make some edible ornaments for animals, using cranberries, popcorn, peanut butter, etc., and may even get a good glimpse of Santa as he passes through the park, burning calories to lose that last bit of weight so that he can fit into his suit.

Officials say searchers should bring a camera or cell phone to document this unique Santa Claus sighting, and a campfire and hot chocolate will be waiting for the search party when it returns!

To register, call (609) 261–2495 or [email protected]. There is no participation without pre-registration, and no rain date, since Santa will need to get back to the North Pole.

The program cost for RNC members is $15 per family (limit five), with non-members charged $21 per family (limit five). Those who attend this program can pay on the day of the program.

Participants are also invited to come early on Sunday for a special Bake Sale to benefit Rancocas Nature Center, hosted by the South Jersey Homeschool Builder’s Club, from noon to 4 p.m.
