Two Lenape Regional High School District students have made their debut in radio news as high school juniors.

Leah Clemens of Lenape High School, and Hannah Schor of Cherokee High School, recently completed the KYW Newstudies program.

Officials say they gained an in-depth look at radio reporting and practiced researching, writing and recording their own story.

For Clemens, she chose to focus on Lenape’s performance of Cinderella, capturing the enormous effort put forth by the student performers to deliver a successful show.

For Schor’s story on a run/walk to support the Friends of Burlington County Animal Shelter, she earned an award as a “Top 12” student.

She weaved sound bites from organizers of the fundraising event into her piece.

Since 1968, KYW Newsradio has offered this Newstudies student reporter program to high school students in the greater Philadelphia region.

Students visit the KYW Newsradio studios for three, three-hour sessions and then record their projects on a fourth date.

They learn news writing, reporting, ethics and interviewing skills from station managers, editors, reporters, anchors and guest speakers.

The program is sponsored by Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

“I commend Leah and Hannah for taking advantage of this opportunity to further their skills and produce a portfolio-worthy piece of journalism,” LRHSD Superintendent Carol Birnbohm said. “They have represented our district well, and I look forward to hearing them on the radio or reading their byline in print.”
