Moorestown determines affordable housing set asides for future development
Any approved multifamily development coming to Moorestown will have to set aside a portion for affordable housing. At their most recent meeting, Moorestown Township Council passed an ordinance on second reading requiring 20 percent set aside for units for sale and 15 percent set aside for rental properties.
Councilman Michael Locatell clarified that the ordinance is not in regard to the Pennrose site or any of the other Council On Affordable Housing (COAH) locations. The ordinance is for any new development coming in outside of the township’s affordable housing plan.
Second Baptist celebrates 125 years
The Rev. Thomas Holmes said statistics indicate 77 churches close their doors every week in the United States, which makes it no small feat that Second Baptist Church of Moorestown is celebrating 125 years since its opening.
This December marks the major milestone for the church. Second Baptist started with a mere 16 members meeting in family homes. From there, the church-goers gathered in Moorestown Town Hall and later met at the Knights of Columbus building on East Main Street.

Nearly a month ago, the Burlington County Animal Alliance of New Jersey took in 15 dogs that had been rescued from a Shamong dog breeder who was keeping more than a hundred dogs in inhumane conditions, according to officials. Shortly thereafter, the Alliance received an influx of messages to its Facebook page from residents asking how they can help.
Moorestown resident Daina Collins, one of the Alliance’s fundraising chairs, said the organization recognizes not everyone wants to make a monetary donation, so one of their members suggested an Amazon wish list for the holidays. Anyone looking to make a homeless dog’s holidays a little brighter can purchase toys, collars and other items to make their stay in foster care a little more homey.
