In an effort to save the playground at Fullerton Park, known to many as Zelley Park, concerned residents met with township officials last week to discuss the options.
Township Manager Chris Schultz told residents last week that — after another visit from the township’s loss control consultant — it was determined the playground most likely will need to close and ultimately be replaced, according to the Friends of Fullerton Web site.
The township told the residents the playground was not up to code, has multiple safety issues and may possibly contain CCA — a chemical preservative containing arsenic, chromium and copper that protects wood from rotting.
If the township were to keep the park open while a decision is made on how to proceed with replacing the playground equipment, it would need to test for CCA. According to the FOF Web site, Schultz said leaving the park open and testing would not make sense due to a number of reasons, including the township’s liability and financial concerns.
