Yesterday, Burlington County officials and the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce issued an alert to businesses and residents concerning any telephone calls they receive promoting the “Burlington County Emergency Guide.” These calls have no connection to county government or the Chamber.
On Dec. 28, Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield issued a statement in a press release that was posted to the county’s Web site, www.co.burlington.nj.us.
“This is a scam, plain and simple,” Stanfield said. “The caller is soliciting advertising for the ‘guide’ by falsely representing that she is working with the Sheriff’s Department and the Chamber.”
Stanfield said that Burlington County Consumer Affairs has been contacted and is investigating. Contact Consumer Affairs at (609) 265–5054 if you receive a call.
As of Dec. 28, the Chamber had been alerted to four calls. The initial report was conveyed to the Chamber by a bank in Cherry Hill, which checked the phone number left by the caller and discovered it was erroneous.
