New Jersey Department of Transportation announces construction and closures on Route 38
New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane and ramp closures on approximately one mile of Route 38 eastbound for the start of final milling and paving work in Burlington County.
Beginning tonight, Oct. 26 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., NJDOT’s contractor, R.E. Pierson Construction, Inc. is scheduled to temporarily close alternating lanes and shoulders along Route 38 eastbound from Marter Avenue to an area immediately after Briggs Road. As part of the project, the ramps from Route 38 eastbound to I-295 northbound and from I-295 northbound to Route 38 eastbound will be closed. Work began in October 2014 on this 10-mile resurfacing project along Route 38 between Lumberton and Mount Laurel. Final resurfacing is expected to be completed by the end of the year. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained during construction.
The following detours will be in effect:
From Route 38 eastbound to I-295 northbound:
- Traffic will travel on Route 38 eastbound up to the Briggs Road jug handle.
- From Briggs Road, traffic will proceed onto Route 38 westbound
- From Route 38 westbound, traffic will take the Marter Avenue ramp
- From the Marter Avenue ramp, traffic will travel onto I-295 southbound
- From I-295 southbound traffic will take Route 73 southbound
- From Route 73 southbound traffic will travel onto I-295 northbound.
From I-295 northbound to Route 38 eastbound:
- Traffic will travel on I-295 northbound onto Route 38 westbound.
- From Route 38 westbound travel will take the Marter Avenue ramp
- From the Marter Avenue ramp, traffic will turn left to Route 38 eastbound.
The Route 38 Resurfacing Project in Burlington County is a $13.8 million state-funded project estimated to be completed by the end of the year. NJDOT designed the resurfacing work to be performed as a moving operation, closing only one side of the roadway at a time. All local detours are coordinated with the local authorities.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.
