Lourdes Offers Safe Sitter Course to Prepare Adolescents for Child Care

Unknown

It’s usually around 11 years old that a preteen may seem ready to sit for younger child, but it takes more than being a specific age to care for little ones, say child care experts.

To help prepare adolescents, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County is hosting a two-day Safe Sitter course. The nationally recognized instructional program teaches boys and girls age 11 to 13 years old life-saving skills and how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The course also covers injury prevention, child development and age-appropriate activities.

Lourdes Safe Sitter class will be held Wednesday, August 3 and Thursday, August 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County — participants meet in the main lobby at 5:30 p.m. To successfully complete the program, participants must attend both days and pass a practical and written test to demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts and skills necessary to care for children.

The cost of Lourdes Safe Sitter program is $25. The fee is refunded if the child attends both evenings. Students should bring to class a baby doll, light jacket and snack/drink. Due to class size limitations, registration is required. For more information, or to register, call Peggy Cossette-Bauer RN, BS, WCC, Lourdes’ Community Outreach Coordinator, at 609–835–5813.
