Trinity Episcopal Church announces the selection of a new rector

Rev. Emily A. Mellott will arrive on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Trinity Church is pleased to announce the calling of its 18th rector, Rev. Emily A. Mellott, who will arrive on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Mother Emily is coming from Lombard, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, where she served as the rector of Calvary Episcopal Church since 2008.

She was ordained to the priesthood in 2006 and served as an assistant priest in St. Louis for three years before being called to calvary. Mother Emily is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, Calif. Mother Emily succeeds the Rev. Philip Stowell, who served as Trinity’s rector for 20 years, until his retirement in 2015.

“I was initially attracted to Trinity because of its great outreach and music programs and the preschool that serves the community,” Mellott said. “Then I just fell in love with the people of Trinity during the discernment process. I am really looking forward to getting started at Trinity and getting involved in the Moorestown community.”

Trinity’s call to Mother Emily was the result of a nine-month search process led by the Discernment Committee and Vestry who used input gained from surveying the congregation to review the credentials of numerous candidates from throughout the country.

“After a careful, deliberate process we are so pleased Mother Emily accepted the call to lead Trinity Church,” Trinity’s Rector’s Warden, Jasmine Decle said. “We were set upon finding an energetic person who would offer compassionate pastoral care, be an inspirational preacher, possess strong leadership skills and have an interest in growing our youth programs and outreach efforts. We found all of these qualities in Emily. We look forward to her arrival at Trinity Church,” Declet added.
